Starting from 7am on Friday 25 July until 7am Wednesday 30th July, some NHS services in England will be affected due to strike action by Resident doctors (formerly Junior Doctors) including our GP trainees. You will be contacted if your appointment needs to be changed at the hospital. For appointments at the practice, please state if you can wait 1-2 weeks so that we can deal with urgent patients first. 111, walk-in centres and pharmacies will remain open.

The practice will continue to be open during the resident doctor’s strike. Please continue to attend your appointments, unless you are contacted and told otherwise.

The British Medical Association (BMA) has announced a series of strikes by resident (trainee) doctors in England, starting from July 25, 2025, due to ongoing disputes over pay and working conditions. The action is reflective of the successive underfunding of the NHS and Doctors pay and we hope the NHS including General Practice and our own practice, will be the better for it

Key Details of the Industrial Action

Strike Dates: Resident doctors will strike from 7:00 AM on July 25 until 7:00 AM on July 30, 2025. This action follows a ballot where 90% of participants voted in favor of striking, reflecting significant discontent with current pay offers.

Reasons for Action: The BMA is advocating for a pay increase of nearly 30% to address what they describe as 15 years of inadequate pay. The recent government offer of a 4% pay increase plus a one-time payment of £750 has been deemed insufficient by the BMA, especially in light of rising living costs.

Impact on NHS Services: The strikes are expected to have a substantial impact on NHS services, particularly affecting elective procedures and appointments. While other medical staff will continue to work, the absence of resident doctors will lead to significant disruptions.

Public Response and Safety Concerns: The BMA has indicated that strikes will proceed even in the face of public health warnings, such as heatwaves. They have established protocols for resident doctors to return to work voluntarily if safety concerns arise during the strikes.
