Between 5-10% of people with pre-diabetes go on to develop type 2 diabetes each year. However 80% of cases of type 2 diabetes could be delayed or prevented through making lifestyle changes. Remember once you are diagnosed with type 2 diabetes, your cannot reverse it and revert back to normal. The best you can do is go into remission. That’s why if you have prediabetes, you still have a chance to revert back to completely normal if you follow this advice.
Haughton Thornley Medical Centres have teamed up with Rekha Bhavnani from Reed Wellbeing to deliver a unique lifestyle improvement programme delivered at the surgery to help you reduce the risk of developing diabetes.
Healthier You: NHS Diabetes Prevention Programme is free to people at risk of Type 2 diabetes.
The programme will help you improve your health and lifestyle – and reduce your risk of developing Type 2 diabetes.
The programme is designed to be informal, interactive and supportive. Everyone will be working together and supporting each other.
As you progress you will start to feel healthier through the changes you make to your own lifestyle. The key part of the programme is ensuring these changes are sustainable – now and in the future.
There will be 13 friendly and supportive group-based sessions over nine months with Rekha Bhavnani, a trained Health Coach.
